SUP Coastal Touring Course

Explore the Discovery Islands

...and get Paddle Canada Certified!

The 3-night/4-day course will take place on Quadra Island and includes 3 nights of accommodations at Discovery Lodge on Quadra Island. 

This course is for Stand Up Paddleboarders who are interested in exploring their coastlines for day tours and multiday overnight trips. Participants are introduced to paddling and navigating in a coastal environment with an emphasis on knowledge, navigation and safety skills.

The scenic waters of the Discovery Islands provide the backdrop for learning and exploring that will have you confidently and safely setting off on your own paddling adventures.

Successful participants will receive the Paddle Canada Coastal Touring Level 1 Skills award. 

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • 3 days of ongoing Paddle Canada certified training, both dry land and on water

  • Paddle Canada Touring 1 SUP Skills certification awarded to successful participants if all criteria are met as assessed by the instructor.

  •  Paddle Canada certified guides with Wilderness & Remote First Aid/CPR qualifications

  • 3 nights accommodation at Discovery Island Lodge 

  • 1 hour online or phone session to help you prepare for the upcoming course

  • Some bedding: bottom sheet, pillow ????

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED

  • Travel to and from the course destination: Discovery Island Lodge, Quadra Island

  • Travel Insurance

  • Charts and Maps

  • Personal clothing - see “What to Bring” list

  • Touring board, paddle, pfd, leash, throw bag with tow line - rentals available, add at time of booking

  • Food - A kitchen is available to cook your own meals. Please bring easy to cook food for 3 dinners, 2 lunches and 3 breakfasts. Lunches should be suitable for packing on your board during the course.

  • Sleeping bag or duvet, towels ????

Is this Course Right for You?

This is an Intermediate/Advanced course.

 

  • Advanced flatwater SUP certification or equivalent experience, skills and knowledge as assessed by the instructor. Paddlers need time and practice to sufficiently develop the skills learned in the prerequisite course before registering in this course. Please contact us if you are unsure if you meet the prerequisites. 

  • Must feel comfortable Stand Up Paddling at an easy pace for 3 to 4 hours per day with a fully loaded board. 

  • Must be comfortable in the water. 

  • Age restrictions 18+ (may consider mature 16+ who are strong paddlers)

Logistics

  • The course starts Sunday, Aug 1 at 3pm and ends Wednesday, Aug 4 at 10am

What to Bring

It's important to come prepared so you can make the most of your time on the water.  For this course, you will need to bring all paddling equipment, camping gear and personal clothing.
