Basic SUP Skills Course 

Get On Board 

Learn to Stand Up Paddleboard this summer!

This course is perfect for those looking to start their paddleboarding journey in a safe and supportive environment. you will get an introduction to the basics of Stand Up Paddleboarding with an emphasis on safety, skills and fun.

 

We will cover a lot of helpful paddling skills so you can confidently go out on your own like;

  • Lifting and carrying a board

  • Choosing and holding a paddle

  • Mounting a board at a beach or dock

  • Prone paddling

  • Paddling while kneeling

  • Standing up

  • Paddling in a straight line

  • Forward stroke

  • Braking stroke

  • Sweep strokes

  • Paddling in windy or turbulent conditions

 

We're all about fun but safety is number one!! In this course, we cover Safety Skills such as;

  • Safety equipment needed

  • Falling off safely

  • Remounting the board

  • Use of a leash

  • Understanding weather and paddling conditions

 

Plus we cover topics like Board design and outfitting, Clothing, Paddles, Injury prevention, Equipment care, SUP resources, how to transport a SUP and SUP heritage. 

 

Successful participants will receive the Paddle Canada Basic SUP Skills award.

WHAT’S INCLUDED 

  • 3 hours of advanced instruction with Paddle Canada Instructor

  • Paddle Canada certification (if successfully attained)

  • Use of a small dry bag for clothes and phone if needed

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED

  • Travel to and from the start/end locations (participants must arrange their own pickup and drop off as we are not providing shared driving arrangements at this time)

  • Travel Insurance (if applicable)

  • Personal clothing, gear & safety equipment (choose our rental option and we'll have a board, paddle, coiled leash, and throw bag with tow line ready for you!)

  • Donation to our Girls on Boards program 

  • 5% GST

Is this Course Right for You?

This is a beginner-friendly course. For you to be as successful as possible, you would already be;

  •  comfortable in the water 

  • able to hold a paddle and assist in carrying a board

Logistics

  • The course begins at 10 am and finishes at 1pm. 

  • We meet at: Pacifica Paddle Sports, 789 Saunders Ln, Brentwood Bay, BC

  • Please arrive 15 minutes before, earlier if you need to collect your rental gear from Pacifica Paddle Sports

  • The location may change if weather conditions require it. You will be emailed or called 24 hours prior if this happens.
